Edwin Joseph Chapin, age 81 of West Grove, PA, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Chester County Hospital. He was the husband of Donna Hodge Chapin, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
Born 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, Ed was the son of the late Edwin Leo Chapin and the late Rosemary Cummings Chapin.
Ed graduated from West Catholic High School and shortly after, enlisted in the Marine Corps. Ed proudly served his country and completed two tours during the Vietnam War.
Ed later worked as a machinist at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. He transitioned careers and was a postal worker with the United States Postal Service for nearly 35 years before retiring.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed Irish music, traveling, and working out in the gym. He integrated discipline in all areas of his life and appreciated the philosophy of ‘the world would be a better place if you put things back where they belong’.
Ed was reserved, honest, dependable, and loyal. He was the definition of integrity. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Ed is survived by his sons, Edwin Chapin, Jr. and Gary Kahn; daughter, Lauren Chapin; four sisters, Kay, Bonnie, Margie and Debbie; 12 grandchildren, Lauren, Erin, Eddie, Sean, Liam, Paden, Jude, Nolan, Luke, Christian, Suzanna, and Johnathan; as well as one great grandchild, Cassandra. Ed was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at ABVM Parish, 300 State Road, West Grove, PA, 19390. Interment will follow mass at S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project via online or by mail.
